Advance, Missouri
| Visitation: | 03/23/2022 |
| Service: | 03/23/2022 |
Stephen Michael Costello was born July 17, 1962 in Sacramento, CA and died March 13, 2022 in Cape Girardeau, MO. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shandra (Bird) Costello, his father Michael Costello, and his father-in-law Michael Bird. He is survived by his son Ty Costello, his daughter Claire Costello, his mother Carol Costello, his mother-in-law Shabie Bird, his sisters Maura (Jimmy) Cluck, Kathleen (Rick) Slagely, and Aishline Costello, his brother-in-law Shea (Shanna) Bird, and his godmother Mary Canney, as well as four nephews, two nieces, numerous cousins, and too many friends to count.
Steves family moved to Advance when he was 14, and he made it his lifelong home. He signed up for the Navy before he had graduated from Advance High School in 1980 on his way to becoming a SeaBee. He married the love of his life, Shandra, in 1993 and regularly said that the best days of his life were the days his kids were born. He was incredibly bright and a voracious reader who was proud of his Irish roots. He was an avid conversationalist who had lots of opinions that he loved to share. Steve will be remembered for his sharp wit, deep laugh, and generous spirit.
Steve spent 25 years at Kirby Inland Marine, where he started as a deckhand and worked every job on a boat until he had become one of the most respected captains on the river. In his last few years, he worked for Florida Marine and General Marine Services. As his cousin, Larry Winchester shared, as long as the Mississippi River flows, when we gaze upon that river well think of Steve Costello.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance, MO. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the chapel.
